Global exchange and UK organizations As the Penguin Dictionary characterize, ââ¬Å"the trade of merchandise and enterprises between one nation and another is called universal tradeâ⬠(as refered to in Jain 2009. p.110). In many nations, global exchange represents a noteworthy percent of the total national output. Universal exchange is enormously help nations to discover less expensive and likely markets for their merchandise and enterprises. While dissecting the effect of worldwide exchange on UK organizations, it appears that worldwide exchange causes the country to develop its business segment. American Imperialism and Early Progressives Essay
The issues America had with different nations all rotated around things like that. There was the Louisiana Purchase. There was the Mexican-American War. There was the ââ¬Å"54-40 or Fightâ⬠emergency including England and the Oregon Territory. Starting with the Spanish-American War, the US turned towards extending its capacity and having a greater amount of an effect on the universal scene. The US at that point did things like taking and running the Philippines. It pushed for the ââ¬Å"Open Doorâ⬠in China. The war spoke to the principal significant military commitment for the United States fringes since the Mexican-American War and prompted a craving of United States interests all through the Caribbean and into the western Pacific area . The warââ¬â¢s result prompted sensational increments in the United States naval force spending plan and U. S military association in the Philippines, bringing about a three-year war. The Spanish-American War made strategies advancing abroad ventures and development, later alluded to as ââ¬Å"dollar diplomacyâ⬠under President Taft. Prior to that, this extended strategy could be found in the Open Door arrangement with respect to China. It could likewise be found in President Theodore Rooseveltââ¬â¢s designing a revolt in Panama against the Colombian government and afterward haggling for the Panama Canal Zone and development of the Panama Canal. 2) Explain how the accompanying people reacted to the monetary and social issues made by the industrialization during the late nineteenth and mid twentieth hundreds of years: Jane Addams, Andrew Carnegie, Samuel Gompers, Upton Sinclair Theory: Industrialization may have made an emotional increment in riches however brought along social and monetary issues, Andrew Carnegie reacted to these issues with the good news of riches, Sinclair assaulted debasement in industryââ¬â¢s, Jane Addams with Hull Houses and developments for ladies and Samuel Gompers with the AF of L. Addams concentrated on neediness, low wages, poor conditions and the need to absorb foreigners. Her objective was to help with the neediness and terrible existences of urban life. She set up a settlement house, Hull House, in Chicago in 1889. 00 settlement houses were built up across America as a result of her. She pushed the administrative development for ghettos and manufacturing plants that contradicted kid work and sweatshops and supported for the 8-hour working day for ladies. Carnegie wanted to fix the issues of the rising economy with his vertical reconciliation of the steel business. Carnegie constructed riches around proficient monopolistic t asks, vertical joining, most reduced potential wages, misuse of laborers, and restricting associations. He pushed the Gospel of Wealth, and monetary natural selection. However, Carnegie likewise held that overabundance riches was a trust for networks, and he built up the numerous Carnegie subsidized open libraries. Inside and out he parted with over $150 million. Gompers composed associations into the American Federation of Labor; associations were autonomous yet coordinated on meat and potatoes issues. He needed higher wages, less working hours, business obligation for wounds, mine security laws, and influence of gifted associations; the AFL composed strikes and blacklists. The AFL had 2 million individuals by 1904 however for the most part discarded semi-and incompetent laborers and ladies. Sinclair composed the book The Jungle in 1906 and depicted meatpacking conditions, which made Theodore Roosevelt push for the 1906 Meat Inspection Act that set up sterile principles and assessments. Sinclair was an analytical maligner concentrating on maltreatment of laborers. 3) How Successful were the dynamic changes during the period 1890 to 1915 as for the accompanying: Industrial condition, Urban life, legislative issues Progressive change helped in observing the production of worker's guilds like The Knights of Labor and The American Federation of Labor. These associations pushed for more significant compensation and shorter work days for laborers by endeavoring to sort out the workers. They accomplished some of what they wanted to yet not all do to the propelled association and snappy strategies for responding of the organizations. the changes were fruitful as far as mechanical conditions. Instances of this: Creation of solid worker's guilds, for example, The Knights of Labor and the America alongside Federation of Labor. These associations pushed for higher least wages and pay and shorter work days. Likewise, to free of kid work. For Urban life upgrades, I didnt build up a contention yet I have these thoughts that were effective: The Hull House, Public Education, Crime, Pollution and theres a ton all the more however im chipping away at it now. Unfortunately thatââ¬â¢s all I have:( furthermore, the Conserative changes of Teddy Roosevelt and Taft. TR included the Yellow Stone National Park to a defensive save. Taft worked off of these thoughts with more stops being made into holds. How fruitful were dynamic changes during the period 1890-1915 as for TWO of the accompanying? Modern conditions; urban life; legislative issues. The late nineteenth century and mid twentieth century were set apart by a time of changes known as Progressivism. During this time, pioneers of Progressive changes expected to improve American lives by actuating changes that would impact governmental issues and urban ways of life. Progressivism for the most part improved the regular day to day existence and diminished debasement inside the nationââ¬â¢s enactments. During the Progressive Era, President Theodore Roosevelt adjusted in 1904 what was known as the Square Deal program. This was the primary program that plot business connections between the corporate pioneers and the modern specialists and that reasonableness and balance would direct the association. In any case, so as to forestall a revolutionary society and keep up rivalry in the economy, Roosevelt didn't dispense with all trusts. He pronounced that there were some ââ¬Å"goodâ⬠trusts, alongside the awful ones. The ââ¬Å"goodâ⬠trusts were those that were liberated from defilement and would by and large keep up a reasonable and only connection among boss and representative. The program incorporated the Sherman Antitrust Act, which requested that the trusts be decided by the demonstrations they have submitted. This demonstration effectively flagged the finish of degenerate trusts, alongside the death of the Elkins Act. The Elkins Act forestalled the rich and the notable to profit and get discounts on the railroads. The Elkins Act constrained the railways to make an equivalent rate for individuals of varying backgrounds and it couldn't be liable to change. In the coal strike of 1902, a huge number of Americans wouldn't work in the mines without upgrades to working conditions.

Black Women Who Have Run for U.S. President
Black women are among the Democratic Partyââ¬â¢s most loyal supporters. As such, they have buoyed everyone from white men to a black man and, now, a white woman to the top of the ticket. Unlike Hillary Clinton, a black woman has yet to win the Democratic Partyââ¬â¢s nomination for president. But that doesnââ¬â¢t mean several havenââ¬â¢t tried. Multiple blackà women have run for presidentââ¬âbe it as Democrats, Republicans, Communists, on the Green Party ticket or that of another party. Get to know the African American women who tried to make history before Clinton did with this roundup of black female presidential candidates. Charlene Mitchell Many Americans have the mistaken belief that Shirley Chisholm was the first black woman to run for president, but that distinction actually goes to Charlene Alexander Mitchell. Mitchell ran neither as a Democrat nor a Republican but as a Communist. Mitchell was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1930, but her family later moved to Chicago. They lived in the famous Cabrini Green projects, and Mitchell took an early interest in politics, acting as a youth organizer to protest racial segregation in the Windy City. She joined the Communist Party USA in 1946, when she was just 16. Twenty-two years later, Mitchell launched her unsuccessful presidential bid with running mate, Michael Zagarell, the National Youth Director of the Communist Party. Given that the pair were only put on the ballot in two states, winning the election wasnââ¬â¢t just a longshot but simply impossible. That year wouldnââ¬â¢t be Mitchellsà last in politics. She ran as an Independent Progressive for U.S. Senator from New Yorkà in 1988 but lost to Daniel Moynihan. Shirley Chisholm Shirley Chisholm is arguably the most famous black woman to run for president. Thatââ¬â¢s because, unlike most of the black women on this list, she actually ran as a Democrat rather than on a third partyà ticket. Chisholm was born on Nov. 30, 1924, in Brooklyn, New York. However, she grew up partly in Barbados with her grandmother. The same year that Mitchell launched her failed presidential bid, 1968, Chisholm made history by becoming the first black congresswoman. The following year she co-founded the Congressional Black Caucus. In 1972, she unsuccessfully ran for U.S. president as a Democrat on a platform in which she prioritized education and employment issues. Her campaign slogan was unbought and unbossed. Although she didnââ¬â¢t win the nomination, Chisholm served seven terms in Congress. She died New Yearââ¬â¢s Day 2005. She was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015. Barbara Jordan Okay, so Barbara Jordan never actually ran for president, but many wanted to see her on the 1976 ballot and voted for the groundbreaking politician. Jordan was born Feb. 21, 1936, in Texas, to a Baptist minister father and a domestic worker mother. In 1959, she earned a law degree from Boston University, one of two black women that year to do so. The following year she campaigned for John F. Kennedy to be president. By this time, she set her own sights on a career in politics. In 1966, she won a seat in the Texas House after losing two campaigns for the House earlier. Jordan wasnââ¬â¢t the first in her family to become a politician. Her great-grandfather, Edward Patton, also served in the Texas legislature. As a Democrat, Jordan ran a successful bid for Congress in 1972. She represented Houstonââ¬â¢s 18th District. Jordan would play key roles in both the impeachment hearings for President Richard Nixon and in the 1976 Democratic Nationalà Convention. The opening speech she gave at the former focused on the Constitution and is said to have played a key role in Nixonââ¬â¢s decision to resign. Her speech during the latter marked the first time a black woman gave the keynote address at the DNC. Although Jordan did not run for president, she earned a single delegate vote for president of the convention.à In 1994, Bill Clinton awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom. On Jan. 17, 1996, Jordan, who suffered from leukemia, diabetes and multiple sclerosis, died of pneumonia. Lenora Branch Fulani Lenora Branch Fulani was born April 25, 1950, in Pennsylvania. A psychologist, Fulani became involved in politics after studying the work of Fred Newman and Lois Holzman, founders of the New York Institute for Social Therapy and Research. When Newman launched the New Alliance Party, Fulani became involved, running unsuccessfully for Lt. Governor of New York in 1982 on the NAP ticket. Six years later, she ran for U.S. president on the ticket. She became the first black independent and first female presidential candidate to appear on the ballot in each U.S. state but still lost the race.à Undeterred, she ran unsuccessfully for New York governor in 1990. Two years after that, she launched a failed presidential bid as a New Alliance candidate. She has since continued to be politically active.à Carol Moseley Braun Carol Moseley Braun made history even before she ran for president. Born Aug. 16, 1947, in Chicago, to a police officer father and medical technician mother, Braun decided to pursue a career in law. She earned her law degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1972. Six years later, she became a member of the Illinois House of Representatives. Braun won an historic election in Nov. 3, 1992, when she became the first black woman in the United States Senate after defeating GOP rival Richard Williamson. This made her only the second African American elected as a Democrat to the U.S. Senate. Edward Brooke was the first. Braun, however, lost her reelection race in 1998. Braunââ¬â¢s political career didnââ¬â¢t come toà a halt after her defeat. Inà 1999, she became the U.S. ambassador to New Zealandà in which she served until the end of President Bill Clintonââ¬â¢s term. In 2003, she announced her bid to run forà president on the Democratic ticket but droppedà out of the race in January 2004. She endorsed Howard Dean, who also lost his bid. Cynthia McKinney Cynthia McKinney was born March 17, 1955, in Atlanta. As a Democrat, she served a half-dozen terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. She made history in 1992 by becoming the first black woman to represent Georgia in the House. She continued to serve until 2002, when Denise Majette defeated her. However, in 2004, McKinney won a seat in the House once more when Majette ran for Senate. In 2006, she lost reelection. The year would also prove to be a difficult one, as McKinney faced controversy after reportedly slapping a Capitol Hill police officer whoà asked her to present identification. McKinney ultimately left the Democratic Party and ran unsuccessfully for president on the Green Party ticket in 2008.à Wrapping Up Several other black women have run for president. They include Monica Moorehead, on the Workers World Party ticket; Peta Lindsay, on the Party for Socialism and Liberation ticket; Angel Joy Charvis; on the Republican ticket; Margaret Wright, on the Peopleââ¬â¢s Party ticket; and Isabell Masters, on the Looking Back Party ticket.

Descriptive School Day - 1875 Words
School Day Iââ¬â¢ve told this story many times before and to this day, I have not run out of questions. It was a regular school day, nothing was out of the ordinary. I woke up at five in the morning, showered, brushed my teeth, got dressed and waited for my mom to finish getting ready while I played video games, as I do every day. The drive to school was just like every other drive to school. Mom was asking questions, trying to get some intel on my life, just like any other mother of a 16 year old teen. When we drove past school I felt weird. There was a pit in my stomach; I felt nervous. It was the same feeling that youââ¬â¢d get on the first day of school. I walked in and I saw Elizabeth. Elizabeth has been my crush since the sixth grade.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦I quickly rushed to the window, when I did everyone started yelling at me telling me not to, but I needed to. My sister was on her lunch break and I had no idea where she was and what I saw, when I looked out the windo w worried me even more. Everyone out there looked terrified there were flashes everywhere, bodies falling, people crying, others rushing to find a spot to hide and there was nothing anyone couldââ¬â¢ve done to help out. Our teacher locked us in the room and told us to hide. I was crying hysterically, but I needed to pull myself together. Elizabeth was next to me, panicking and I needed to help her. We were hiding under the teacherââ¬â¢s desk, when we heard all the shooting stop all together. Afterwards we hear loud knocking, it was a girl begging to be let in. We didnââ¬â¢t understand why she was being so loud, if she was trying to get away from those psychotic murders. Maybe it was just the paranoia in me, but I got that same sense that something terrible was about to happen. I began to question, if she was trying to get us caught or something. Why did she choose our class out of all the others? Our class was all the way at the end of the hallway, at the very front of the hallway, there was an intersection to the other hallway. Modify DCS GAs Swing Logic Samples for Students â⬠MyAssignmenthelp.com
Question: Discuss about the Modify DCS GAs Swing Logic. Answer: Project Description The Distributed Control System (DCS) in our gas processing plant is out-of-date and requires a programming modification to be updated for two changes in our gas injection train: The project is estimated to cost $29,385 and was not budgeted for 2017; the need for this project was only recently identified. Background The gas injection swing logic serves the purpose of maintaining an appropriate injection pressure in the system. This logic resides within the DCS; when the Total Gas To Injection (TGTI) pressure reaches 19 MPa the logic sends a signal to the Remote Transmitter Unit (RTU) at each injection well which opens the control valve. This allows more gas to be injected into the wells, and relieves the system pressure back to a normal operating level (around 17.5MPa). There are two reasons why this swing logic is needed: Medium-duration handling of excess gas injection volumes. This is to allocate sustained excess gas volumes properly and requires smooth control. This occurs as production rates fluctuate from the field from activities like pipeline pigging and bringing new wells onto production. Note that long-duration excess gas injection will be accommodated through injection target changes; it is not intended to be handled with the swing logic. As well, gas shortages will not be included in this scope of work; this situation will also be accommodated through target changes. The existing swing logic is designed to take the wells existing injection target and multiply it by a factor of 1.75, to increase the valve position and open it to allow more gas. The main problem with this design is that there is less gas being sent to injection on a normal daily basis because it is being preferentially sent to sales instead. This results in many injection wells having a normal operating target of 0 e3m3/d. When the swing logic engages, the DCS will not send signals to the field RTUs to open the control valves for any wells that have an existing target of 0 e3m3/d, because 0 e3m3/d X 1.75 = 0 e3m3/d. This renders those wells ineffective when TGTI pressure reaches 19 MPa and it is likely that the TGTI system pressure will reach the set point of the high pressure shut down switch (22 MPa). This situation has happened twice within the last year. There are two problems that result from compressor shutdowns: Lost Revenue - The gas train of the processing plant will shut down. Excess gas is sent to flare (burned). Oil wells that have a high gas-to-oil ratio (GOR) must be shut in until the gas train is back online. Both situations directly lose revenue; during the last two compressor shutdown events lost revenue amounted to ~$150,000 each time. Increased Cost - Reaching these high pressures often can result in damage to the compressor, which will result in unscheduled downtime and increased maintenance costs. It is also important to note that high pressure shutdowns should only be utilized as a last resort. It is proper engineering design to ensure you dont reach those shutdown levels as a part of normal operating procedure, to reduce the likelihood of failure of these protection devices. The remaining wells to be part of the gas injection swing logic are these B Pool injectors: 0/16-15-109-08W6/00 0/09-15-109-08W6/00 0/12-10-109-08W6/00 2/10-10-109-08W6/00 0/12-03-109-08W6/00 0/10-03-109-08W6/00 3/13-02-109-08W6/00 0/03-03-109-08W6/00 These wells have a combined maximum injection capacity of approximately 2240 e3m3/d. This number is based on current orifice plate sizes and trends of actual injection rates from 2014-2017. Typical daily gas volumes during normal operating conditions in the plant are as follows: TGTI (treated gas to injection): 800e3m3/d TCPL Sales gas: 900-1400e3m3/d Solution This project proposes to upgrade the swing logic for the remaining B Pool gas injectors to open their control valves during a high-pressure swing situation even if their operating target is set to 0 e3m3/d. The following proposed control philosophy is based on ease of implementation; all controllers already reside in SCADA. Control Philosophy The proposed change for the new swing logic is to consider any control valves that currently have a target of 0 e3m3/d, and impose a set point change even if this condition exists. This will result in a consistent maximum swing tolerance volume. B-Pool Chase Gas The following 8 control valves will continue to be included in the B-Pool chase gas swing: NLB 09-15 / 50-0915-FIC-62 NLB 16-15 / 50-0915-FIC-61 12-10 splitter - 12-10 / 50-1210-FIC-60 2/10-10 well - 2/10-10 / 10-FIC-573 SLB 3/13-02 / 54-FIC-93 SLB 03-03 / 50-0703-FIC-61 SLB 12-03 / 54-FIC-61 SLB 10-03 / 50-0703-FIC-60 Operator accessible ON (trip) and OFF (reset) pressures will continue to control the status of the B-Pool chase gas swing. If the plant TGTI pressure is greater than the ON pressure for Level 1 (to be set at 19 MPa), the swing will be enabled and the B-Pool chase controllers will continue to be issued a set point of: Existing Set Point X % Flow Increase. The % percent flow increase will be similar to the existing logic, at 75%. If the plant TGTI pressure continues to increase and exceeds the ON pressure for Level 2, which will be set to 19.8 MPa, all controllers will receive a valve output command of 100%. Once the plant TGTI pressure falls below the OFF pressure, all swing will be switched off and the B-Pool chase controllers will receive their original set points prior to the swing. A minimum gap of 100 kPa is recommended between the ON and OFF pressures to allow smooth control. Notes The swing levels will be cascaded by using higher ON and OFF pressure set point for each subsequent swing. Controllers in manual prior to a gas swing will not be affected by the swing (during or after). Naming conventions will be consistent with the existing gas swing: Pressure set points will be called ON PRESSURE and OFF PRESSURE ENABLED will mean the logic is ready / standby, DISABLED will mean the logic is bypassed. Swing status will be displayed as either ON or OFF Alternative Options Continue to operate with existing swing logic, assuming there will be atleast two compressor high pressure shutdowns per year. This is a total of $300,000 in lost revenue, plus an increase in maintenance cost. 0/15-03-109-08W6/00 and 0/01-03-109-08W6/00 are also gas injectors in B Pool, but currently do not have SCADA at site as there is no power available. They can only be controlled manually by the field operators. They are not part of the swing logic as there is no remote signal that can be sent from the DCS with this current design, therefore their injection capacity cannot be considered as part of the design. If added to the swing logic, they would provide an additional 480e3m3/d of capacity to the gas injection swing logic. This number is based on the current orifice plate size and well capability. The scoping for adding SCADA to these sites is not a part of the design of this project, but must be considered if sales gas targets are expected to increase past 1400e3m3/d in the future. Justification This project will reduce lost revenues by ~$300,000/year for a total spend of $29,385. This work will pay out in approximately 36 days, which is well under the Capital expenditure hurdle rate of 6 months. Execution Strategy Required internal resources include the DCS Maintenance Rep, Plant Operations, and Engineering. External programming resources are also required to complete this project; the selected vendor is Autopro. Scope of Work Project Engineer will write an upgraded Control Narrative. Cost Estimate A Capital AFE will be raised for this project. Estimated costs are as follows (+/- 10%): Reviews Engineering Manager ________________________________ Plant Superintendent ________________________________ Field Superintendent ________________________________ Maintenance Superintendent ________________________ Grammatical errors, which I found, which include verb use problems and punctuation error. I did not understand this part regarding the specification of the target that can range from the source of injection to the sink for injection. The alternative section of the report is very neatly said and all the portions of lost revenues are very persuasive to apply for the new proposed project.

HIPAA Violation Research Paper Example
HIPAA Violation Research Paper Example HIPAA Violation Paper HIPAA Violation Paper Ever wonder what the acronym HIPAA stands for, how it relates to health care professionals, as well as you, the patient? Violations of the HIPAA Privacy rule greatly impacts health care professionals, specifically those working in a pharmacy, such as pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Letââ¬â¢s read further to learn more about HIPAA, more specifically the Privacy Rule. The 1996 Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, better known as HIPAA, is a federal law that contains national standards, created to protect a patientââ¬â¢s medical and health information, among other things as well. All health care workers, including pharmacists and pharmacy staff, who have access to patient information must comply with HIPAA and the Privacy Rule (Christenson). In August 2002, the Standards for Privacy of Individually Identifiable Health Information or ââ¬Å"Privacy Ruleâ⬠, was established to implement the requirements of the HIPAA Act. This rule describes what health workers need to do to protect the privacy of their patientsââ¬â¢ health information. The Privacy Rule was established to protect patient health information by placing limits on how patient information can be used or disclosed. The Privacy Rule is just one part of HIPAA, but nonetheless a very important part to health care workers, including pharmacy employees. (HIPPA for Pharmacy Staff) With the establishment of the HIPAA Privacy Rule, a patientââ¬â¢s right to have his or her health information kept private and secure became more than just an ethical obligation of physicians and hospitals t became the law. Protecting patientsââ¬â¢ privacy must be part of the daily routine of a pharmacy and is the responsibility of the pharmacist, pharmacy technicians, and the entire staff, therefore the Privacy Rule affects the everyday practice of a pharmacy. To protect the rights of pharmacy patients, pharmacy technicians need to fully understand and be familiar with the laws of the Privacy Rule. As you perform your job, patient privacy needs to be protected. Patients expect privacy when they receive healthcare, including within a pharmacy. This means that they expect all of their medical information to be kept private and confidential. A patientââ¬â¢s privacy is violated when pharmacy staff or any other health care workers improperly use, disclose or allow unauthorized access to confidential health information. (HHS.à gov) You may ask yourself, ââ¬Å"What is considered private health information and what type of information needs to be protected? â⬠ââ¬Å"Protected Health Informationâ⬠, or rather PHI, is the common phrase referred to in HIPAA rules for the pieces of information which must be kept confidential. The most common protected health information a pharmacy keeps is the patients name, address and phone number, date of birth, age, Health Plan, Medicare or Medicaid ID number, Diagnosis or diagnosis code, and Social Security number. There are, of course, other pieces of information that is considered PHI. PHI is considered any piece of information that identifies an individual patient. Pharmacies keep records which contain PHI in order to care for patients, bill for products and services or operate effectively. Your pharmacy computer records, prescription files, dispensing reports and backup files all contain PHI. Privacy has to do with patient rights to control sharing of their PHI. Any person has the right to choose whether or not they want their health information shared with anyone except those directly involved in their health care. (HIPPA for Pharmacy Staff) Most of the time, health care workers do all they can to protect their patients confidential health information, but unfortunately there are times when a patientââ¬â¢s private medical information is used and disclosed in the wrong way, and violation of the Privacy Rule occurs. Consider the following scenario; Mary, a pharmacy technician working in a small community pharmacy, is on the phone in the prescription department joking with a friend about a patient named Jack, a 76-year old family friend who had just been prescribed Viagra. Jackââ¬â¢s neighbor and close friend overheard the technicianââ¬â¢s conversation and became highly offended. She plans on telling Jack what she heard as soon as she gets home. Ask yourself this questions â⬠¦ ââ¬Å"has Mary, the pharmacy technician, just violated the HIPAA privacy rule? The answer is of course ââ¬Å"yesâ⬠! Mary has violated a patientââ¬â¢s privacy by discussing health matters with someone who is not a health care worker and within earshot of other patients. (HIPPA for Pharmacy Staff) As stated before, protecting patientsââ¬â¢ privacy must be part of the day-to-day work of the pharmacy dispensing staff as well as all employees who have access to patient information to protect against improper disclosure. Discussions about patient care and any personal medical information needs to be kept private to reduce the likelihood that those who do not need to know will overhear. Many times legal cases may occur involving violations of the HIPPA Privacy Rule. One such case is that involving the Rite Aid Pharmacy Corporation, which was cited for violation of the HIPPA Privacy Rule. Rite Aid was reported to have disposed of prescriptions and labeled pill bottles containing individualsââ¬â¢ identifiable information in industrial trash containers that were accessible to the public. Disposing of individualsââ¬â¢ health information in an industrial trash container accessible to unauthorized persons is not compliant with several requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Rule and exposes the individualsââ¬â¢ information to the risk of identity theft and other crimes. ââ¬Å"It is critical that companies, large and small, build a culture of compliance to protect consumersââ¬â¢ right to privacy and safeguard health information. OCR is committed to strong enforcement of HIPAA,â⬠said Georgina Verdugo, director of OCR. It was also noted that Rite Aid failed to implement adequate policies and procedures to appropriately safeguard patient information during the disposal process and Rite Aid failed to adequately train employees on how to dispose of such information properly. As a result of this violation, Rite Aid agreed to pay $1 million dollars to settle the HIPPA Privacy Case. This case clearly defines the importance of making sure that employees fully understand and are properly trained in all of the HIPPA rules and regulations when it comes to maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality. In Conclusion, the HIPPA Privacy Rule greatly impacts any health care professional, specifically relating to a pharmacy and its entire staff when dealing with patient information on a daily basis. As an employee working in a pharmacy, whether it is a community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, or any other type of pharmacy, one of your jobs will be to help maintain privacy for patients as they receive care and help protect the confidentiality of their private information. There will be times when you will hear or see patient information and you are expected to not seek out information about patients unless it is job-related. When you do see or hear information in the course of doing your job, always remember that the information is should be considered confidential and you are not allowed to repeat it or share it with others. As a future pharmacy technician, I will come in contact with patients on a daily basis and will be required to use their personal information as a part of my job duties. Therefore it is my responsibility to fully understand and become properly educated with the HIPPA Privacy Rule in order to protect the privacy of all the patients I will encounter. Whether I am on the job or off the job, it is my obligation to adhere to the HIPPA privacy rule and keep every bit of a patientââ¬â¢s information confidential. Proper use of this information, using it only as needed for prescription use is required. In addition, I will also play an important role in developing policy and procedures for using patient information and identifying situations to which the Privacy Rule applies. A pharmacy needs to be committed to protecting patient privacy and confidentiality, and pharmacy technicians are just one important piece of the whole team to make sure that patient confidentiality is being maintained. The ultimate goal is to keep the patients best interest and treat them with the utmost respect and dignity. Understanding the HIPPA Privacy rule can be very overwhelming and confusing, but just remember that patient privacy should be top priority for pharmacy staff. HIPAA has many rules, but most are pretty much common sense and are pretty easy to follow.

Critical Evaluation Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Critical Evaluation - Research Paper Example One of Twains argument to disapprove Darwinââ¬â¢s theory is that anaconda is less cruel as compared to an earl. He gives an example of an earl killing seventy-two buffaloes during a hunt and eating only a part of one of the buffaloes and leaves the other to rot. In his attempt to demonstrate that an anaconda was less, cruel he puts seven calves in his cage, and the reptile crushes only one, eats it, and shows no interest in the rest. Twain argument is that man kills for pleasure. This example is not sufficient, since he does not experiment with other animals such as elephants that at times kill while they are not carnivores (Wrangham and Peterson 131). Additionally, 120 sheep were found dead on August 2009, near Dillon in Montana and had been killed by a pack of wolves most of which were untouched and left to rot (Byron Web). Another example is that of Dolphins which often kill for fun (Yubi Shines Web). Moreover, coyotes also kill chicken but end up feeding on the head only. Thes e are just a few examples to demonstrate that some animals are just as wasteful as the earl mentioned in Twainââ¬â¢s essay. They are not any better than man is. ... On the other hand, ââ¬Å"Man is the only one that gathers his brethren about him and goes forth in cold blood and with calm pulse to exterminate his kindâ⬠(Twain 219). Twain did not conduct extensive studies and he failed to recognize how ants gather in forces and attack anyone who challenges their borders. Some species of ants have territorial wars where they engage in fight and the winning colony takes the other for slaves. Indeed, there are certain types of ants known to make slaves even in absence of war. They thus invade colonies, steal eggs, and carry them to their nest to hatch into slave ants (Wilson 370). Animals like lions cannot be considered better to man since male lions often challenge each other. If a male lion succeeds in challenging a fellow lion to become the ââ¬Å"kingââ¬â¢, it involves in act such as killing the cubs of the former ââ¬Å"kingâ⬠(Wrangham and Peterson 160). Other animal species known to engage in war include mares. If a mare joins a herd and is already pregnant, the stallion kills the foal after it has been born. Moreover, chicken have been known to attack and kill fellow chicken they consider different from them. Although humans have demonstrated ruthlessness through their actions, he is not the only species that does so and is thus not the least developed as Twain argues. Moreover, humans have the ability to learn from experiences and avoid some activities. On the contrary, animal repeat their actions through history. At times war against humans is for a cause while animal engage in war for no specific gains. Moreover, man learns to improve his life as well as that of others. This can be demonstrated by the development of America through history where humans gain more

Australian Criminal Justice System, the Belief in Justice, an Independ Essay
Australian Criminal Justice System, the Belief in Justice, an Independent Judiciary and the Rule of Law - Essay Example For any criminal justice system to be accepted by everyone, it must not discriminate against the people of a certain race, ethnic background or social class. The legal system can only be fair if the necessary procedures that guarantee a fair trial are in place. Similarly, there must be a system of law for the purpose of fairness in the society or simply the Law of Equity. The society will continue to trust the legal system if justice is not only done but perceived to be done. The entire society more so the witnesses and victims should be made aware of steps that are made to ensure that those who are involved in criminal activities are arrested and prosecuted. Furthermore, the public should be able to witness, by the means of the criminal justice system, the law bringing about accountability. The legal system comprises some basic elements of justice which include unbiased judges, jury trials that are just and the provision of security to the witnesses whenever it is called for. The Australian Justice system is based on the belief in justice, an independent judiciary and the rule of law (Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, 2008). The people, in disregard of race and whether or not they are citizens, are given similar treatment before the law. The law also safeguards and ensures that the people are given fair treatment by officials and governments. There are some principles which are fundamental to the Australian legal system. These include the separation of powers, judicial precedent and procedural fairness. The Australian jurisprudence is based on the United Kingdom common law system. This law shows a great variation from the other civil law systems operating in Japan, South America and Europe that originated from Roman law (Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, 2008). The major feature of the common law is that cases that have been settled previously act as a precedent to the pendingà cases.

When we were Soldiers Essay Example for Free
When we were Soldiers Essay The Randall Wallace movie ââ¬Å"When we were Soldiersâ⬠is a factual account of Vietnam War but with specific Hollywood aspects which one finds in majority of movies. The move takes you back to the year is 1965 and Lt. Col. Hal Moore leading the 1st Battalion of the 7th Cavalry. The battle takes place at the La Drang Valley called The Valley of Death. This film allows the viewer to see what fighting and the what the war zone was really like in Vietnam as they experience one of the most violent battles in U. S history. The film uses images in a very important way to convey historical truth as to what really happened at Vietnam. The film uses graphic images to portray what the battle scene was really like. It shows how the American troops were outnumbered and how they were fighting literally within feet of the enemy. The images in the movie that we seen are as close to as what it was really like, because there was a photographer there taking pictures during combat. The pictures that the photographer shot during battle helped us visualize what the battle scenes were really like and the pain and anguish that soldiers went through when fighting. The images of soldiers dying during combat and the reality of the battle helps to portray the bloodiness of the battle. Some black and white photographs of the actual battle scene in 1965 were in the film so that the viewer could see real images of the battle and what soldiers had to go through to survive the combat. One problem with most Hollywood films about war is that they make war seem more heroic than it actually is. The producers of this film managed to keep that false sense of wanting to fight in a war to a minimum. The images and the plot allow the viewer to really see what is going on in the battle. The producers show how gruesome the battle really was and the small heroism there actually was in a war. The grim fighting conditions that soldiers endured while fighting in Vietnam made many Americans want to stay out of war as it was a horrible place to be. This film had a couple of weak spots in the plot. One thing was that it never really talked about why we were going to Vietnam to fight in a war. It barely touched on the subject about the controversial issues that surrounded the United States into entering this war. The battle at La Drang Valley was one of the first battles in the Vietnam War, and the American public knew little about our position in Vietnam until this battle had taken place. When this battle broke out there was no hiding our position any longer. The American public would now know that we were at war with northern Vietnam. Another part of the plot that I thought was bad was the life on the home front. I feel as the producers used Hollywood at the home front a little too much. The films most dramatic scene involving the Armys failure to properly deliver the telegrams of regret is ruined by a number of wives crying through screen doors. Also when the husband comes home he rings the door bell to provide a false sense of sorrow only to see him standing there to greet his wife and family. This hurts the films authenticity but makes up for it when the battle scenes resume. Another part of the film that was poor was the timeline of events that happened. In the movie it seemed as if the battle only took a few days where in reality the battle took over a month. It is a little bit confusing because when it returns to the home front it seems that time is going by but, when on the combat zone it is like the battle took a couple of days and then everybody left to go home. In reality the battalion that the film was following left the combat zone to another battalion and they returned back to base. The film is important because it takes a look at the first battle of Vietnam and how under equipped, out numbered and ill informed our troops really were. When they first step foot onto the battle scene they undertake heavy fire from the enemy and realize that they may be in over their heads. They never suspected that they had such great numbers in their military. The amount of casualties was tremendous, after the first day of fighting thousands of bodies lay on the battle field.

Differences Between Vietnam and British Food Essay
When we talk about the differences between Vietnamese and English culture, we can think of many things, namely literature, style of music, arts, â⬠¦ One of these highlight culture is culinary. And I will tell you some differences of the two cuisines. Initially, both English and Vietnamese have 3 meals per day, but British food has traditionally been based on beef, lamb, pork, chicken and fish and generally served with potatoes and one other vegetable while people in Vietnam have rice, pork and vegetable as the main ingredients. Secondly, the most common foods eaten in Britain include the sandwich, fish and chips, trifle and roasts dinners, opposite to pho, banh mi, xoi in Vietnam. For example, a typical English breakfast is more likely to be a bowl of cereals, a slice of toast, orange juice and a cup of coffee but in Vietnam, people usually eat pho, banh mi, xoi or instant noodles. Another differences is eating manner. English people eat with a knife, fork or spoon (with the fork in the left hand and the knife in the right one) while Vietnamese usually use chopstick and spoon. In the meal, the British usually use napkins and drink during meal meanwhile Vietnamese do not use napkins but wash their hands and their faces before and after every meal. They donââ¬â¢t drink during eating, they drink afterward. In addition , in Viet Nam, rice is the main starch and meat is cut into small pieces before cooking because they never use knife during meal but in Britain potato or bread is the main starch and meat is cooked in big pieces, they cut it during eating Finally, before having meal, people in England normally pray for the God because of providing them with food, however, in Vietnam, everybody (especially young people) have to invite other members having meal. There are so many differences in British and Vietnamese cuisine. The differences indicated above can show that the British culture is significantly different from the Vietnamese one. But in the trend of integration Viet Nam and Britain have more acculturation, especially cuisine. For example, there are so many places in Viet Nam selling British food such as sandwich, fish and chips and vice versa.

Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare - 560 Words
A tragedy is a story in where the main character obtains a flaw that leads to their downfall. This main character, called a tragic hero, possesses qualities that cause their demise. These qualities are called tragic flaws. In Julius Caesar, both Julius Caesar and Brutus can be seen as tragic heroes. However, Brutus is the most tragic hero of the two. The qualities that make Brutus a hero are also the qualities that lead to his downfall. He cares about everyone, and makes each decision for the good of Rome. However, the fact that he is too trusting, too honorable, and too stoic, ultimately leads to his downfall. Brutusââ¬â¢ first flaw is that he is too trusting. He cares too much about helping others, and trusts them entirely. At Caesarââ¬â¢s funeral, Brutus allows Antony to speak once the conspirators leave. He believes that Antony has the right to speak at his friendââ¬â¢s funeral, and trusts that Antonyââ¬â¢s speech will not poorly affect the conspirators (3.1.263-270). Brutus also holds trust in the members of the conspiracy. He believes that they are acting out of nobility, but instead they are acting out of jealousy (4.3.9-12). Brutus holds too much trust in the people around him, and that undying trust leads to his downfall. Brutusââ¬â¢ next flaw is that he has too much honor and too much pride. More importantly, he does not want to disgrace himself. Brutus wants to help the people of Rome more than he wants to help himself. He agrees to kill Caesar for the purpose of benefiting Rome.Show MoreRelatedJulius Caesar by William Shakespeare646 Words à |à 3 Pages William Shakespeare is one of the greatest playwrights of all time. Very close after Jackson was born his father died, Living with his mother in South carolina, he had lived with an extended family of Scots-Irish that worked and owned farms. His mother always dreamed of him being a well taught little boy but ends up Jackson had a love for cursing, pranks, and a lot of fighting. When Andrew was thirteen he decided that he wanted to volunteer to be in the Revolutionary War, His oldest brother, Hugh, died of a heat stroke in The Battle of Stono Ferry in 1779. In 1781 Andrew and his brother were captured, Andrew refused to polish the officers shoes so one of the british officers bashed him in the head with his sword. Robert, his other brother, died later from a deadly illness. Andrews mother then went to help injured soldiers and then died leaving Andrew an orphan at the young age of fourteen years old. When his money ran out, he finished schooling and he became a teacher for a short period of time and most people thought of him as different. He was Tall with red hair and blue eyes, Jackson was known for his bad temper . In 1784, when he was seventeen, Jackson decided to become an attorney. He moved to Salisbury, North Carolina, where he studied law by learning with lawyers. He also while doing three years of lawing school he worked at an general store. He also studied at Nashville for two years. One day Andrew met a woman named Rachel Donelson Robards, and she was struggling with a marriage. After hearing that her husband had been granted permission to divorce her, Jackson went to her in Natchez, where her mother had sent her, and may have married her there but no one really knows and have no records of the marriage. When they returned to Nashville in 1791, they discovered the divorce had not worked out. In 1792, Rachels husband sued for divorce so then they could not marry until 1794. When Andrew was twenty-first birthday one of Jacksons friends, John McNairy, was elected Superior Court Judge of the newly formed Western District by the North Carolina General Assembly. He went to Tennessee and practiced law briefly in Greeneville. Then in the fall of 1788, he moved to Nashville. Then broke out the war of 1812, As the new general, Andrew Jackson made quick, action to take the War of 1812 into his own hands, even though his soldiers were not the best. After a long battle he then won the battle of New Orleans by the British. This unexpected victory launched an enormous sense of national pride as America began to realize its true potential. It also made Jackson the new American hero. With winning New Orleans,it put Jackson on the map politically for his road to the White House. When Andrew was president he empowered his presidency, he defended the union, and pushed the country to democracy. He was so important to the government and made him such a good leader, and he always wanted to help all of the problems that anybody that he could provide for/take care of the issue .Although his candidacy brought problems and even deep personal loss upon him, Jackson was beloved by the country and the people recognized in him a unique spark they believed would change the nation to new heights. Andrew always did not want to be the boring old president that just enforced laws. Jackson was different. No one like him had ever served as president. He made decisions based on his personal beliefs. Besides the great work he achieved in office and in the military, President Jackson left a legacy resulting from his unorthodox, action-first mentality that pushed the boundaries for what both the president and the nation could achieve. Jackson returned to the Bank War. His relationship with the people throughout his first term convinced him that he was the only elected official in the United States that represented all the people. As such, Jackson believed he had to use his office to carry out their will. Jackson also espoused removing Indian tribes in the United States to the west of the Mississippi River as one of his reforms.Jackson argued that the United States policy of attempting to assimilate the tribes into white society had failed and the Native Americans way of life would eventually be destroyed. He recognized that whites desired their lands and feared if the Native Americans remained in those areas they would eventually be taken by the soldiers. Opposition groups fought Jacksons removal policy in Congress, but they sadly lost .In June 1836, Congress approved the legislation and sent it to Jackson. Jackson was tempted to veto it because he despised distribution and he felt the regulations on the state banks that held U.S. deposits did not go far enough, but the bill offered a final victory in the Bank War, currency reform and assisted Van Buren in his presidential campaign. Congress made the Indian Removal Act in 1831 which empowered Jackson to make treaties with the tribes in arranging for their displacement.Andrew would get many threats but just ignore them. He then took the indians through the Trail Of Tears. Which after this happened most people started not liking Andrew for honestly really good reasons.Today, Jacksons Indian Removal policy and its tragic consequences which led to the Trail of Tears was one of the worst parts on his presidential legacy. Jackson as a president was to carry out the Peoples will and which the price was to pay to become the president, and adding on to the death of his wife made his deeply affect him and he would spend the rest of his life mourning her. One of the bad things that Andrew Jackson did was the Tariff, he was known for this act to be one of the worst things that Jackson did during his presidency. On October 22 1832, the South Carolina legislature declared a convention on November 19, to decide whether the state would, according to Calhouns formula. On December 11, 1832, Jackson published a proclamation giving strong constitutional arguments, written by the Secretary of State Livingston. The only problem with all of this is that Andrew received a lot of hate comment about what he was doing and the choices about all of this. On January 8, the administration submitted a bill, known as the Verplanck bill after one of Van Burens allies, which cut the tariff in half over two years. Even though he was getting all of these threats and hate comments he went through with what his opinion was not really what the people wanted to help the nation better. On the 16th Jackson also sent to Congress the Force Bill ,to get Congressional approval for deploying the military to put down armed rebellion. This was also one of the debated options that he did about what he thought about it. While he was in office he accomplished things beyond his power. Jackson helped to inspire the American sense of promise and hope; the idea that anyone can succeed through hard work and natural ability, rather than through unappreciated power.

Currently the organization is diversified into many businesses with Information Technology services playing a major role in Wiproââ¬â¢s success. Today the Indian IT companies namely TCS, Wipro, HCL are renowned in the global market for their services. The various external factors leading to this situation include the Indian education system, high quality engineers, low cost of creation and high technological infrastructure. Approach to the document This report defines the various kinds of innovative outcomes in Wipro and how it evolved over 50 years to its current state that can be classified into the OECD innovation model. After this a few factors that have led to these innovative outcomes have been discussed and further classified as facilitators or barriers. Based on these observations a few recommendations are also provided to improve corporate entrepreneurship at Wipro. Definition of terms Academicians and practitioners have defined corporate entrepreneurship in many different ways in the existing literature. A number of authors emphasize that entrepreneurship primarily acts in underpinning innovation (Drucker, 1985b; McGrath, 1996; Stevenson and Jarillo, 1990). According to Schumpeter (1934) Innovation is 1) The introduction of a new good or a new quality of the good 2) The introduction of a new method of production 3) The opening of a new market 4) The conquest of a new source of supply 5) The carrying out of the new organization of an industry It can be differentiated between 4 types of innovations, namely ââ¬Å"Product Innovationâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Process Innovationâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Marketing Innovationâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"Organisational Innovationâ⬠(OECD, 2007). Corporate entrepreneurship is defined as the effort of promoting innovation from an internal organization perspective, through the assessment of potential new opportunities, alignment of resources, exploitation and commercialisation of said opportunities (McFadzean et al 2005). Corporate Entrepreneurship (McFadzean, 2005) From 1945 ââ¬â 2000 individual entrepreneurship Azim Hasham Premji, the chairman of Wipro, was called upon to manage Wipro when he was 21 years old at the sudden demise of his father in 1966. He has steered the company to a rapid growth since then. In the 70ââ¬â¢s, he realized a growing demand for computers in India with a few manufacturers. The company had no knowledge about computer manufacturing but Premji decided to venture into this and decided to collaborate with scientists from the Indian Institute of Science (IIS) to manufacture hardware and later software (when the Indian market was liberalized in 1991). Under his leadership, the fledgling US$ 2 million hydrogenated cooking fat company has grown to a US$1.76 billion IT Services organization serving customers across the globe. Value based leadership Premji has established a strong value system in Wipro and believed that values not only helped in achieving success but also made that success more enduring and lasting (2003). Based on the vision created by the leader the organization made its path towards diversifying into various sectors and successfully innovating. Below are the milestones in the value based leadership that led to its growth until 2000 1977 ââ¬â WIPRO was renamed to Wipro products limited due to its wide range of products 1970ââ¬â¢s ââ¬â First Indian company to manufacture mini computers 1980 ââ¬â Wipro Technologies was created to manufacture computer hardware and related software 1988 ââ¬â Wipro Biomed was established to market and service bio-analytical and diagnostics instruments. In 1989 it turned into a joint venture with GE and launched Wipro GE Medical systems limited 1998 ââ¬â Premji decided to undertake an image building exercise for Wipro and adopted the rainbow sunflower logo and the tag line ââ¬Å"Applying Thoughtâ⬠1999 ââ¬â First Indian company to receive the SEI-CMM level 5 certification which would help the company in global business development. All these initiatives led by the leader made Premji one of the top 30 all time great entrepreneurs in the world (Business week, July 2007). The magazine said, ââ¬Å"After making the company profitable and expanding from food oil to other consumer goods, Premji led Wipro into the nascent tech economy in the 1970s. Premji is also a hands-on manager involved in day-to-day operations, even making sales calls himselfâ⬠. He believed in empowering people allowing them to express their ideas and raise voices freely. There revolutionary policies would help shape the leaders of tomorrow. Employees were free to give feedback in a transparent system and the management at Wipro learnt what was hampering team performance and what could be done to rectify any problems. Corporate entrepreneurship from 2000 onwards From 2000 onwards the company focussed on innovation as a measure to sustain its competitive advantage. Since the launch of innovation initiatives in 2000, Wipro had emerged as one of the strongest players in the Information Technology (IT) industry. The company offered a comprehensive portfolio of products based on innovative solutions. Innovation was a prerequisite at Wipro since it believed that this was essential to achieve growth and competitive advantage. It was one of the values on Wiproââ¬â¢s promise statement that said, â⬠With utmost respect to human values, we promise to serve our customers with integrity through innovative, value for money solutions, by applying thought day after day.â⬠2000 ââ¬â In September Wipro established ePeripherals Limited (Wep) diversifying into IT related businesses. You read "Entrepreneurial Management Innovation at WIPRO" in category "Essay examples" 2004 ââ¬â Wiproââ¬â¢s innovation initiatives focused on the publishing industry resulted in huge success thus expanding the solutions to other areas ââ¬â finance, insurance, and manufacturing. 900 employees working towards developing innovative business solutions (Business Week, 2006) 2007 ââ¬â As of March 2007, innovative initiatives contributed to 7.5% of the toal revenues. Had a target of 10% by 2009 and successfully achieved it. Innovation council Soon the innovation council was formed and the approach aimed at soliciting ideas from the employees. The collected ideas from employees were discussed at the IC with top management reviewing the proposed ideas and analyzing how they would help the company accelerate growth and increase the quality of its new products. Thus it offered a bottom up approach to innovation although the feasibility was considered by the top management. And with selected ones, the company granted funding, technology and resources to bring into action. This encouraged the employees to suggest more innovative ideas and by the end of 2006 the council had 200 permanent employees to handle requests. Working framework for innovation at Wipro The innovation initiative at Wipro began with in depth study of successfully innovating companies like Nike, 3M Technologies and Home Depot. A 2 member team was formed to consult with academicians, experts, industrialists to chart out an innovation initiative. However after thorough examination it was observed that no existing innovation models could be replicated at Wipro. Hence by adopting a ground-up approach a focussed innovation model was built based on the requirements of the company also considering authorized customer ideas. According to Oslo Manual for measuring innovation there are 4 types of innovation product innovation; process innovation; marketing innovation and organisational innovation. However the working framework of innovation at Wipro classifies innovation at Wipro as Process Innovation, Technology Innovation, Delivery Innovation and Business Innovation. Applied innovation framework Wiproââ¬â¢s applied innovation was a 360 degree approach to business that focussed on four domains ââ¬â business, process, technology and delivery. This would help Wipro technologies work collaboratively with its clients to reduce the cost of a project, speed up the process of delivery and identify new opportunities for business. Innovation at Wipro (Divakaran Mangalath, 2006) Process innovation As part of its innovation process Wipro applied the principles of lean manufacturing and six sigma to its process of software design and development. This helped it increase productivity by 10% since it reused tools and components. It was evident that after lean principles of engineering were applied to over 700 projects, 20-30% savings were recovered for the company (directorââ¬â¢s report, 2007). Delivery Innovation This included the software factory model and the global delivery model. The factory model integrated several IT functions into a centralized supply chain allowing common areas of work to be grouped for better quality and time saving. Wipro observed 10-15% reduction in cycle time of demand to delivery of products. It was globally used across projects and Wipro was credited with pioneering the virtual distributed software development model that enabled companies to manage large projects through virtually distributed teams. Technology innovation The company was involved in creating IPs (Intellectual Properties) that effectively enabled its customers to reduce time in the product life cycle and improve the success rates of the products. Eg: the company developed a plug-n-play patent and IP that helped reduce the productââ¬â¢s time-to-market by 20-25%. Also they were the largest bank of patents in bluetooth, wireless LAN and IEEE 1394. Business innovation To improve its relation with customers, the company focussed on business solutions that were specific to the related industry. Wiproââ¬â¢s business innovations included Data Privacy and Master Data Management, Clinical Data Management, Integrated Publishing platform, vendor managed inventory, retail pharmacy, etc. Wipro also developed the GCC (Global command center) with IT infrastructure for its customers. The customers were happy to monitor, diagnose, store and secure applications as and when needed. The outcomes of corporate entrepreneurship In 8 years, by the end of 2008, innovation became an integral part of product development process. Since the cyclic processs has been inculcated in the employees, the ââ¬Å"time-to-marketâ⬠was significantly decreased for new products and also the products used leading-edge technology. A work flow solution ââ¬â Flow-Brix was estimated to generate revenues in the range US$ 75,000 ââ¬â US$ 1 million. Innovation had spread across all sectors of the organization and i-Desk was the first one to enable easy HR management ââ¬â by a collaborating workplace tool for workflow solutions for publishing. All these innovation initiatives have been fruitful and also helped the company attract prospective employees to fill 29% of vacancies in 2006 (Business week, 2006) Hence it was certain that the innovation process enabled a strong product portfolio and also brought good revenue streams. In Wipro technologies, the company was focussing on consultancy services which would further enhance its image in the global software industry. Internal organizational factors to consider for successful innovation Effect of leadership In Wipro it was not only recruiting the right kind of people, but also in proper training of its people. Employees were mandated to frequent internal training sessions with major responsibilities showered on them although they may not seem well prepared for the role. Premji (2005) defined 8 leadership qualities which were made a standard against which new employees would be recruited and trained. He believed that training and development at various stages were designed by mapping peopleââ¬â¢s competencies to specific roles in the Life Cycle Stage Development Plan. Innovation Culture Premji also placed utmost importance on innovation and creativity in developing a successful organization. Stressing the importance of innovation for the overall development of the organization, Premji said, ââ¬Å"Innovation is essentially the application of high creativity. It need not be restricted to just products; it applies to services, employee attitude and across all levels. Innovation is a fundamental mindset pursued seriously by an organization. It is imperative to imbibe the culture of innovationâ⬠(Manu B. 2006). Analysts report that the open and supportive culture at Wipro gives employees the opportunity to develop their skills and as a result, contribute more to the organization. Management practices In order to come out with innovative products and services, the top management at Wipro committed itself to fostering innovation in the organization and encouraging employees to come out with innovative ideas. Value system The company also strove to make it more customers centric. The company believes in the objective of ââ¬Å"customer-inâ⬠where the voice of the customers is built in the products rather than being ââ¬Å"product-outâ⬠where the products are sold by marketing its features to the customer. Premji also believed that this value system has to remain intact even after his tenure which was openly admired by the competitors. Organizational structure In Wipro the organizational structure was also responsible for carrying out innovation initiative in selected projects. The company emphasized the commercial viability of an idea along with innovation. The concept was to create components with Intellectual Properties (IP) that would generate revenues over a period of time rather than one-time revenue from projects. Innovation strategy Another approach to innovation involved executives of several industry vertical business units identifying new technologies that would be of importance to their clients in the near future. The objective was to have expertise in the new technologies and come up with the products and productive services that could be patented by Wipro. These centres also work with research institutes, technology providers and also provide a platform for the growth of the employees. The company was able to launch new products continuously due to its innovation strategy, which considerably reduced the time between idea-generation and final product development. A few hindrances to effective innovation Competitive rivalry WIPRO was able to produce hardware and software for the domestic market, however due to high competition and low quality; they decided that they could not export their products in a market that had the niche products from the big companies. They were not ready to take the risk of competing with IBM, Intel, and Apple and decided to use the opportunity where doors were open in the Indian market. If in the process, they were able to attain the quality as these giants, they could have made it to the bigger markets in no time and could have proven cost effective than other options. But due to unavailability of high quality raw material and skilled resources, they had to limit to the domestic market. National culture India is a developing nation and it takes time for technological changes to occur. Also the initial cost of hardware and software related to new technology is very high and not affordable to most projects. Hence although the Innovation council decides on feasible innovative ideas posted by employees, quite often they are rejected due to unavailability of resources in the country. However the company is striving to compete with global competitors in the technological field and this barrier can cause a major impact on the innovation strategy. Recommendations Top down approach An entrepreneurial vision indicates the strategic intent of the organization. Stein (2002) proposed that the most admired companies set challenging goals. This vision encourages individuals to hold informal discussion with colleagues, friends and share the knowledge that they bring with different project experiences. This helps refine the idea based on the critical analysis by more than one person. Thus the vision setter actually motivates employees to strive to excel beyond their capabilities and routines. Although innovation and creativity cannot be forced on employees, this provides a platform to discuss, relate and generate new ideas. This continuous innovation is also possible only when the employee understands and accepts the vision and strives to deliver it. Team based activities In Wipro technologies project work is also carried out in teams. This inculcates an team based culture for working among employees. Although the employee is not forced to discuss innovative ideas within his team he can depend upon forums to find people with similar interests. As part of knowledge sharing the company encourages participation in forums and blogging. Thus a webbed structure is created in sharing ideas. For example, people working for different projects but with similar technological backgrounds can rely upon the forums for their needed expertise. In this way simple tools created in one project can be easily passed on to other projects with similar requirements effectively reducing time to collaborate with the Innovation council. This can also be seen as a knowledge management initiative that fosters innovation. A new perspective The organization can look upon innovative ideas as a change management process. The organization has keenly created the Innovation council to take care of the process. However the acceptability of existing teams to these new ideas is not calculated as a risk. People could be inflexible in accepting a novel way of doing business. They are more comfortable with the routine methods and could prove a failure to the case. Along with innovation management the organization should also consider change management as part of the culture. This would improve acceptability of ideas and keep the cyclic process of innovation going on. Conclusion Wipro which began with the success of an individual entrepreneur has matured to a corporate entrepreneur that fosters innovation. The innovation discussed about Wipro technologies in particular can be applied to other industries too. Analysts feel that these internal organizational factors ââ¬â culture, leadership, strategy give employees the environment conducive for continuous innovation and contribute more to the organization. However, the company has to rethink of its methods since close competitors like TCS, Infosys and CTS are also making huge investments in innovation. Hence with increased competition, it is a challenge for Wipro to sustain the current position of the innovation leader in the Indian market.
